Hi everyone. Thanks for all your best wishes on my tramadol thread. Saw the rheumy- looks like the sulf's no longer working so he's putting me on mtx. He's advised me to carry on with the sulf til I get started as otherwise I'll be a lot worse. Tod me to take tramodol at bedtime to help me sleep. I must admit I'm rather apprehensive about the mtx having read about sicky side effects- oh well, fingers crossed! Talking of fingers- just pigged out on some cadbury's choccy ones- til hubby pointed out 1.9g of sugar in each one..............still ate them though Maria x

Hi Maria
If you find it does make you a bit sickly, down it after a pot of good bio yoghourt (someone on here told me to do this and it worked!) Also ask your doc for a stomach protector. Another trick is to take it in the evening and don't lie down for half an hour after you've taken it. I know it all sounds mad, but it really does work.
All the best and fingers crossed. None of us like taking the wretched stuff but oh boy, does it help!
Much love
Jeanxxxx

Dear Maria,
I completely know how you feel in regards to MTX but when one is on it it is very closely monitored and you'll have monthly bloods to check all is fine.
Regarding the sickness, the folic acid will help although you shouldn't take too much of it as it can sometimes counteract the actual MTX dose.
Milk Thistle is excellent for protecting the liver and blood and can halt sickness. Also grated ginger on food.
Of course, you may feel no sickness whatsoever!
Love,
Amanda

Hi Maria, I started on mtx in July, at the beginning I did feel sick all weekend, after taking in on Friday evening. Now even though the dose has doubled to 20mg I dont get that at all. Admittedly I am still waitng for it to do anything!!! Am now on hydroxychloroquine too, so ever hopeful!! You may find no side effects whatsoever. We are all different, good luck x BARBARA

Hi Maria, I've heard choccie fingers are completely good for you and in some countries, count as one of your five a day I've been on Methotrexate for years and have never suffered with any sicky side effects. I take my 25mg dose each Wednesday morning straight after my breakfast. I also take folic acid every day apart from Wednesdays. Hope it goes well! Joanna

Hi Maria, Been on metho myself for some years now. I'm afraid my tummy could not take to it no matter what i did, so, I went on to weekly injections, the rheumy nurse showed myself and my lady how to do it and off i went. I have had no problems with it at all and because I lost my job because of the rheumy, I take mine on a Sunday morning as in the early days it made me a bit poorly, so I decided not to ruin my weekend and moved it from the friday, folic acid the day after. Wish you good luck with it according to my rheumy team its the standard for RA.
John

Thanks everyone- lots of helpful ideas. Still haven't got to see the nurse yet to start, so will chase it up tomorrow.
